   The album is an early unique brand of their acid jazz/rock with experimentations in the studio. These guys had a lot to bring to the table of British prog rock. I know The Soft Machine had to influence over 3 decades of musicians. As noted in the previous reviews, their first 3 LP's are fantastic and their best/5(13).

   Description Joy Of A Toy is the debut solo album from the bassist and principal songwriter of the Soft Machine, originally released in With Ayers playing an impressive list of instruments and bandmate Robert Wyatt on drums for most of the songs, many of the tracks recall early Soft Machine, and feature Ayers prog-pop songwriting sensibilities in full force.

   Founded in , Soft Machine (one of the central bands in the Canterbury scene) recorded and released this studio album during their tour of the USA. It was produced by Chas Chandler and Tom Wilson. The work on this album was one of the essential roots in progressive rock and jazz-fusion.
